Newsweek this week introduced us to The Reviewer Who Wasn’t There, David Manning of the Ridgefield Press. The thing is, I don’t know how all that many people can be surprised. The only surprising thing to me, actually, is why Sony would create a fictional reviewer, when you could throw a rock in this country and hit three real hacks at nobody papers or TV outlets (like, say, anyone at a UPN affiliate in the Midwest) who would happily say Battlefield Earth is a “compelling vision of the future … mindbending high drama… four stars!”
