Gimme a ‘G’!

Once again, Burt waxes about a tech topic dear to my heart in his weekly Bytemarks column: Google’s still-in-testing Gmail service. As a former EFF member and EPIC supporter, how could I surrender my personal correspondence to privacy-invading ad scanners? Well, one of the many answers can be found by simply cutting and pasting a single line from both systems’ inbox screens.

This is Yahoo!: You are using 65% of your 6.0MB limit.

This is Gmail: You are currently using 12 MB (1%) of your 1000 MB.

The ability to turn the full power of Google’s search on all my archived messages (who was it that mentioned aardvarks?) is a close second.

And before you think this is something only geeks care about, I should tell you that there was no peace in this house until I got an invitation to share the Gmail love with my wife.

Yahoo just gave everyone 100MB of free storage space today. Paid members will get 2 GB.
