Ruby On Rails in Hawaii
Hawaii is hosting a major Ruby on Rails conference in October. “Aloha on Rails” is bringing many of the world’s leading developers to Honolulu for three days of presentations, discussions, and debates with an eye toward the future of web application engineering.
Ruby on Rails is perhaps the most popular tool used in developing web applications today. The free, open-source framework is behind hundreds of websites and online services, and Ruby on Rails developers are among the most sought-after talent in the tech industry.
And now, some of the most notable Ruby on Rails experts will be here, including Chad Fowler, Obie Fernandez, Greg Pollack, and Yehuda Katz. The full list of speakers is a “who’s who” of Ruby on Rails and web application developers.
Hawaii-based developers will show off their stuff as well, including Anthony Eden of Chimp and Michael Nieling of Ocupop.
Are you a Ruby on Rails beginner? No problem. The first day of the conference will be devoted to “Rails Training in Paradise.” The special boot camp session will be led by Sarah Mei of RailsBridge.
Attendees are coming from around the world to talk tech, but it certainly doesn’t hurt that this conference is taking place in Hawaii. Aloha on Rails will surely make the most of its venue at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Organizers have compiled a list of recommended activities and attractions for attendees who will spending a little extra time in the islands.
Aloha on Rails is being organized by my friend Seth Ladd. He was one of the first “regulars” at Manoa Geeks, which was once one of the few places like-minded geeks could connect locally. It wasn’t too long ago that Ruby on Rails developers were incredibly scarce in the Aloha State, so I’m very excited to see an event like this in Honolulu.
Register now for Aloha on Rails to get the Early Bird discount price of $299. The price goes up to $399 on September 1. The event runs from Sunday, Oct. 4 through Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Seth Ladd will be joining Burt Lum and I tomorrow on Bytemarks Cafe to talk about the Aloha on Rails conference. The show airs on Hawaii Public Radio’s KIPO 89.3FM at 5 p.m. every Wednesday.

This will be the best conference ever! I will totally be there. People should come even if they don’t know Ruby on Rails because there will 1 day Rails training included. The Rails community has tons of exciting and interesting people and many of them will be at this conference.
