Canoe research revives ‘Maori from Hawaii’ theory: Researchers studying the evolution of culture say analysis of Polynesian canoe design suggests New Zealand was at least partially settled from Hawaii. The concept of Hawaii as the ancestral home of Maori fell out of fashion among archaeological circles more than 60 years ago.
Killer asteroid hunter suffers from poor vision: The first of the asteroid-hunting Pan-STARRS telescopes will be taken apart today in an effort to solve problems with image quality. Sited atop a volcano on the Hawaiian island of Maui, PS1 is the prototype for telescopes that will image the whole sky visible from Hawaii three times each month.
