Workshop Charts Path After Startup Weekend

Congratulations! You’ve survived, and may have even taken top honors, at Startup Weekend! Now what?

The defining constraint of Startup Weekend is the 72-hour sprint between team formation on Friday and final pitches on Sunday. But whether participants have come up with a brilliant idea worth exploring further or built an entire business, the natural question is what comes next.

On Tuesday night, Startup Weekend Honolulu organizers are hosting a follow-up workshop: “Life After SWHNL: One Month Later.” Complementing three newly introduced workshops leading up to last month’s Startup Weekend, which prepared first-timers for the signature 72-hour experience, this final installment will prepare them for the future.

The forward-looking theme of the event is perhaps especially fitting, considering that students were a big part of the participant pool for the most recent Startup Weekend Honolulu. The winning team was led by 15-year-old Liam Clive, and we interviewed him and fellow winners Constantin Dumba and Jenn Lazariuk on Hawaii Public Radio earlier this month.

“The workshop itself will introduce attendees to local resources within our ecosystem and how they can all help you continue your path to launching your startups,” SWHNL organizers write. “We will also have an open presentation time for any teams who are still working on their startups to present updates on growth.”

There will be presentations by Blue Startups, Sultan Ventures and XLR8UH, Startup Capital Ventures, the HSDC HI Growth Initiative, HTDC, and title sponsor Hawaii National Bank. The recap video will also be previewed.

“If you are interested in knowing how to finance your business, who to ask for funding, or how you can apply to one of our accelerators, we highly suggest you attend,” organizers add.

The free “Life After SWHNL” workshop will be hosted at The BoxJelly (307 Kamani Street) on Tuesday, July 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pupus and “ice cold refreshments” will be provided. You can register online, and RSVP on Facebook.
