eBay founder, wife pledge $50 million to Hawaii charities over six years: eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam have pledged to donate $50 million over six years to the Hawaii Community Foundation. The foundation said it believed the donation is the largest single gift by a living donor in Hawaii’s history.
Cancer Research Center of Hawai’i to receive two awards from ARRA: The University of Hawaiâ€˜i at MÄnoaâ€™s Cancer Research Center of Hawaiâ€˜i (CRCH) will receive two awards of more than $1 million each over two years, funded under the federal stimulus package.
Protection Sought for 83 Coral Species as Coral Heads for Worldwide Extinction: The Center for Biological Diversity filed a formal petition seeking to protect 83 imperiled coral species under the Endangered Species Act. These corals occur in U.S. waters ranging from Florida and Hawaii to U.S. territories in the Caribbean and Pacific.

Ocean Power Technologies: The most important small business youâ€™ve never heard of before has recently inked another deal to set up a sea-based power station in Japan. Ocean Power Technologies builds buoys that ride waves, converting their natural energy into electricity.
