  • Wind farm pact approved: The state Public Utilities Commission has approved a power purchase agreement between Hawaiian Electric Co. and the developer of a Kahuku wind farm project, described as the largest of its kind on Oahu.
  • Sun’s constant size surprises scientists: A group of astronomers led by the University of Hawaii’s Dr. Jeff Kuhn has found that in recent times the sun’s size has been remarkably constant. Its diameter has changed by less than one part in a million over the last 12 years.
  • UH astronomer to use research award for galaxies study: Rolf-Peter Kudritzki, director of the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy, has received a Humboldt Research Award honoring his lifetime achievements in research.
  • Kona Blue Water Farms gets federal grant: Kona Blue Water Farms Inc. on the Big Island has won a $242,889 Saltonstall-Kennedy grant from the National Marine Fisheries Service to research alternative protein sources for aquaculture feeds.
