Bizarro World

I wasn’t a big fan of Al Gore, to be sure. But I really don’t get it. Not a single journalist or talking head would let anyone forget the whole “I invented the internet thing” (which isn’t, exactly, what he said) for months. But now George W. Bush contradicts himself and the facts, stretches the truth, and outright fibs, and he gets a big, honkin’ pass?

I don’t care, entirely, if the man turns out to have been right (or, at least, plausibly right absent any independently-confirmed facts), but I’m flabbergasted at the fact that the same supposedly liberal mainstream media that took glee at picking apart Gore and Bill “It depends on what your definition of ‘is’ is” Clinton aren’t even asking the questions. (Or, to be more accurate, aren’t bouncing back whenever Bush gives one of his Reagan-esque “there you go again” answers.) And those that do ask the questions are just given a pat on the head and are quietly swept into the “leftist commie pinko extremist” bin.

It’s creeping me out, in a way, too. One by one, more and more of the nice establishments I patronize have been switching their televisions from ESPN and CNN Headline News over to Fox News. It has me daring to think… either the whole country has gone mad, or I have.

Don’t you start!
